A few comments:

  • This is a major negative development, with conservatives rolling back progress
  • It is concerning to see another weakening of the separation between Church and State, with religion taking a role it should not have
  • See this CSF Article about the historical origin of Christianity’s strong political influence

  • It is clear that:
    • The US Supreme Court is deeply divided
    • Ideology and religion play a major role in how these justices interpret the law, and that they are not nearly as impartial as they pretend to be
    • The three new justices appointed by Trump lied under oath at their Senate confirmation hearings
    • Some of the biggest damage cause by Trump is the extremist justices he managed to get confirmed, some under very questionable circumstances
    • The credibility of the US Supreme Court is in question.
  • It is now over to Congress to write sensible abortion laws, so this issue can no longer be determined by “activist” justices from the Religious Right.
