A few comments about this article:

  • Hillsong is Australia’s most high profile Pentecostal megachurch, partially due to the fact that the current Prime Minister (Scott Morrison) is a devoted Hillsong member
  • Brian Houston, the Hillsong Founder, is a high profile spiritual counselor for the Prime Minister
  • We can expect Scott Morrison to distance himself from Brian now, despite their close and public association
  • Interesting to see the seemingly high correlation between “family values” pastors/politicians and sexual skeletons in the closet
  • I think it would not be unreasonable to suspect that these 2 complaints are just the tip of the iceberg
  • The fact that neither Hillsong nor Brian Houston took any real responsibility is a pity, but no surprise. Their excuse is as lame as it gets:

The board said an investigation found Mr Houston “became disorientated … following the consumption of anti-anxiety medication beyond the prescribed dose, mixed with alcohol”.

  • We can only hope that this incident will continue to erode Hillsong’s disproportionate influence on Australian politics.

He spent two years working on a PhD in Systematic Theology as he contemplated an academic career. These 8 years of full-time studies, seriously looking for answers in Theology, Philosophy, History and Science, led him to leave religion and his career, as the Christian scripture, dogmas, claims and history could not hold up to rational scrutiny.
